Waters posted Q3 revenue of $1.767 billion and adjusted EPS of $4.10, up 21%, then raised 2026 guidance to 9.1%–9.7% organic growth while leaving AI demand unquantified.

Waters Corporation (NYSE:WAT) posted third-quarter 2026 revenue of $1.767 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $4.10, up 21% year over year and $0.05 above the high end of its own guidance. Organic revenue grew 10% on a constant-currency basis. The figures look strong. The question for finance teams is how much rests on pricing actions and how much on durable demand.

President and Chief Executive Officer Udit Batra said: "We delivered another quarter of exceptional results with outstanding year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter momentum across our divisions." He noted organic revenue rose roughly 5% sequentially from the second quarter and that orders exceeded sales by approximately $20 million. Exceptional is management's word; the segment detail shows uneven growth underneath the headline.

Where did the growth actually come from?

  • The Analytical Sciences Division produced $703 million in revenue, up 8% as reported and 9% in constant currency. Chemistry rose 12%, instruments 10% and service 8%.
  • Pharmaceutical revenue grew at a low-double-digit rate across ethical pharma, generics, CROs, CDMOs and biotech customers.
  • Geographically, Analytical Sciences grew more than 20% in China, at mid-teens rates in India, high-single digits in the U.S. and mid-single digits in Europe.
  • The Biosciences Division reported $396 million, up 2%. Flow Clinical grew 4%, Flow Research 1%, and both research and clinical reagents posted high-single-digit growth, per CFO Amol Chaubal.
  • Advanced Diagnostics revenue reached $575 million, up 2%. Diagnostic Solutions was flat at $500 million.

Not everything advanced. Molecular diagnostics and point-of-care revenue fell 6% on channel inventory timing and lower respiratory testing. China microbiology declined more than 20% because of diagnosis-related group headwinds, even as microbiology outside China grew 6%. Batra said Biosciences in China returned to growth after 10 quarters of declines, aided by local manufacturing and commercial execution.

Two smaller units carried weight: the Clinical Business Unit, including mass-spectrometry diagnostics, generated $75 million, up 18% in constant currency. Materials Sciences delivered $93 million, up 9% in constant currency, supported by semiconductor and data-center electronics testing and thermal analysis for aerospace and defense.

What did the company promise, and on what basis?

Net price realization reached 120 basis points in the quarter, up from 90 basis points in the prior quarter, and management expects to meet or exceed 150 basis points over the next several quarters. Reagent-rental compliance efforts should begin recovering low- to mid-single-digit millions of dollars in revenue per quarter starting in the fourth quarter. Both are commitments to trend lines, not booked revenue; the recovery figures in particular depend on execution that has yet to occur.

The company reiterated it remains on track to generate $50 million in revenue synergies during 2026. It announced the acquisition of MOBILion Systems, which develops SLIM high-resolution ion mobility separation technology. Batra called the deal a small tuck-in financially and said it expands Waters' presence in discovery proteomics when paired with the Xevo MRT mass spectrometer.

On the product side, the FACSDiscover A7 flow cytometer, launched in mid-September, has drawn strong customer interest and should become a meaningful instrument-growth contributor in the fourth quarter — a claim with one quarter of evidence. In molecular diagnostics, Waters announced commercial partnerships with Quest Diagnostics and Labcorp for its FDA-cleared Onclarity HPV self-collection kit; revenue is expected to begin next year.

How large is the AI opportunity, really?

Batra said artificial intelligence is driving experimental activity in pharmaceutical research. Waters launched AI Link, which cuts the time to connect AI agents to its instruments from weeks to hours, and AI-powered peak integration reduced manual interventions by as much as 95% in a pilot with a large pharmaceutical customer. Additional AI applications for column selection, method development and release timelines are planned for the first half of 2027.

Caveat comes from the CEO himself: Batra said it was too early to quantify the revenue impact of AI-related demand.

What does the raised guidance say?

Waters lifted its full-year 2026 organic constant-currency revenue growth outlook by 140 basis points at the midpoint to 9.1%–9.7%. Total reported revenue is projected at $6.479 billion to $6.497 billion, with adjusted EPS of $14.60 to $14.70, representing 11% to 12% annual growth. Fourth-quarter guidance calls for revenue of $1.801 billion to $1.819 billion and adjusted EPS of $4.58 to $4.68.

The initial 2027 framework calls for high-single-digit growth in legacy Waters, mid-single-digit growth in the legacy BD business, combined organic growth starting at a mid-single-digit-plus rate with what management calls a potential path to high-single-digit growth, 100 basis points of adjusted operating-margin expansion to 29.2%, and low-teens adjusted EPS growth. Chaubal said revenue synergies should add about $60 million in 2027, above the $50 million anticipated in 2026.

A raised forecast, a margin target and a synergy number — all of which assume pricing holds and China headwinds do not spread.
